Kayaking with the Manatees and Raccoons of Central Florida
The calm flat water of the St Johns River was reflecting the tree line and the sky above this morning and that was a great way to start our trip. Great Blue and Little Blue Herons, Anhingas, Limpkins and Snowy Egrets were all out feeding. The bubbles up ahead were a sure sign of a resting Manatee and a few minutes later a nose with 2 nostrils and whiskers came up to the surface to take a quick breath. In the spring run we found a few other Manatees and the water so clear you can watch them swim right in front of your kayak. In the back bays of Snake Creek we spotted a Raccoon up in a tree who gave us quite a show of his climbing ability. It was an awesome day for the wildlife!
