Exploring the St Johns River with the Florida Manatees January 26, 2015

Sisters Debbie and Donna came down from NJ for a little Florida Sunshine and that's exactly what we had on our paddling trip today. The St Johns River winds were gusting up to 30 mph but we managed to hang along the tree line and it was fairly calm. The Manatees were out in full force and we had a Mom and Baby come over for a closer look at our kayaks which is always exciting. We got to watch 50 or so White Ibis trying to find a place to land and as the wind came over the trees it would kicked them back up into the air again. After several passes they aborted the mission and found another spot. There were 2 Bald Eagles out today and one flew right up into an old tree and posed for some photos. We had good sightings of the Gators and Turtles out sunning and also saw Limpkins, Great Blue Herons, Snowy Egrets, Great Egrets, Little Blue Herons and even a Wood Stork. With the big blue sky above and plenty of sun it was a great day to be sharing it with the Sisters!
